Josh Bruffey, our 2010 SCBCD Speaker during the weekend of June 11-13, 2010!
The theme for the 2010 Conference is: ...There are a great many people to harvest, but there are only a few workers. So pray to God, who owns the harvest, that He will send more workers to help gather His harvest. ~Luke 10:1, 2 (NCV)

Need your help

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

The purpose of this letter is to share with you the exciting news about the South Carolina Baptist Conference of the Deaf (SCBCD). This time is coming near about three weeks from now for our conference to begin. We, the Board, want to glorify and magnify our Good Lord by making the Deaf conference, June 11-13, one of our best. We will have Rev. Josh Bruffey as our guest speaker.

A brief overview of the tentative agenda for the conference includes worship service and refreshments on Friday and Saturday; a business meeting on Saturday afternoon; a closing with Sunday School classes and worship service on Sunday; and the best part of this conference: a fellowship.  Hopefully, these services sound exciting to you!  We hope to conduct all of these services in the presence of our Lord, allowing us to celebrate and fellowship in His name.

The success of this retreat lies in the Lord’s will and in your presence.  We encourage as many of you to come for the weekend and look for volunteers to help us in various ways.  We also are in need of people interested in making and serving refreshments for the Friday and Saturday nights. We also want to see the displays, focusing on the missions that your church had involved in.  If you have any question in the Lord’s name, please email me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or call me via a videophone: 866.761.5859 or drop me a note at the address located at the top.

In order to complete the planning required for this conference, we ask that your church pray and consider making a love offering of at least $50.  We encourage church members to help us rejoice in the Lord’s presence by praying and sending a love offering of any amount.  We ask that you pray for the Lord’s guidance and love in allowing us to receive whatever funds necessary to improve the betterment of our SCBCD.  Checks can be made out to the South Carolina Baptist Conference of the Deaf.  Please send to: Artie Connolly, PO Box 754, Fairforest, SC 29336.

We wish continued blessings to you and your family.  Please pray for our conference and please spread the word about the upcoming SCBCD Conference planned for June 11-13.  We look forward to seeing you there about three weeks!

In Brotherly Love,

L. Earl Wright, Vice President

President's Message - January 2010

Glory to the Lord that you, Brothers and Sisters in Christ, are reading this message!

We want to share some very exciting news with you as Lord has richly blessed SCBCD!  Last summer, we started a task force to implment the plan to have our first-ever camp for the youth in our own home state!!  As you already know about the Camp Caraway in North Carolina, they hold their camp every May for many years and we had sent our deaf youths from SC there.  We realized that it is very important that we start a new camp for our own young people.  We approved the CAMP ICHTHUS as SCBCD's brand-new youth ministry progam!  We also prepared a grant request with the SC Baptist Foundation (under SC Baptist Convention)...guess what?  We got approved for $3,200.00 grant!!  The grant will be used exclusively for the Camp Ichthus' start-up process.  Boy! Isn't it so exciting?!?  Now we can actually begin reaching out our young Deaf people in whole South Carolina as part of our organization's mission/goal/objective!  Finally, about time!

Now, our dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, it is now time for our next annual conference this coming June as it is on June 11-13, 2010 at White Oak, SC.  The rates will remain the same as last year as listed: $140.00 per adult (2 nights and 6 meals), $70.00 per child (6-12), and $10.00 per child (under 5) for insurance as required at White Oak Conference Center.  The new theme for our 2010 Conferece will be based on the passage from the Good Book of Luke, Chapter 10 and Verse 2:  ...There are a great many people to harvest, but there are only a few workers. So pray to God, who owns the harvest, that He will send more workers to help gather His harvest.  We agreed that it is so important that we focus on this theme to work on our greatest weakness in all of us -- we sorely need to improve our missionary skills by GOING OUT INTO THE FIELD and start reaching out to many of our dear friends that do not fully know Jesus as their precious Savior!

The whole weekend will be focused on MISSION!  We welcome ALL DEAF MINISTRIES and ORGANIZATIONS to set up their exhibits to share wonderful stories from their Churches and pass out brochures, flyers, et cetera.  For many years, we did not have any exhibits or just very few on table to share and show to all of you.  This year, we will have MANY exhibits in a large room for EVERYBODY to be able to see how much Lord has blessed in each Church in our home state!

United in Body of Christ,

Paul May, President
